More Bitchy & Beyond Fabulous Quotes - ala Mignon

    TGIF a wee bit late, D. D. Scott-ville!

But boy - is this a beyond, better late than never!!!

Today, we're goin' bitchy ala Mignon...and no not as in filet mignon, but rather even more top-of-the-line fabulous than that...try ala Mignon McLaughlin

Mignon was an American journalist - she wrote for Vogue in the 1940s, Glamour in the '60s and '70s, and also wrote short stories for both Redbook and Cosmopolitan. In addition, she was the author of the amazing Neurotic's Notebooks plus a playwright too.

I just recently discovered her Neurotic's Notebooks - and wow, talk about some gargantuan great MUSE THERAPY inspiration!!! Here are some of her most famous quotes from these books (as gathered from the beyond wonderful Quote Garden at http://www.quotegarden.com):

If an article is attractive, or useful, or inexpensive, they'll stop making it tomorrow; if it's all three, they stopped making it yesterday. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

If there is something you must do and you cannot do it, you cannot do anything else. ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

I tell you this, and I tell you plain:
    What you have done, you will do again;
You will bite your tongue, careful or not,
    Upon the already-bitten spot.
    ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

Anything you lose automatically doubles in value. --- Mignon McLaughlin

Every society honors its live conformists and its dead troublemakers. --- Mignon McLaughlin

And how 'bout this one for every romance writer's keeper shelf:

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. --- Mignon McLaughlin

And this next one - compliments of Sia, one of our Naked Hero (http://thenakedhero.com) commenters, is a real beauty.

    So no more need to

    frown along your writing-for-publication journey...

just look to the birds for support

    and no, not these birds

    this bird...

"It takes 42 muscles to frown and only four to extend my middle finger and tell you to bite me." --- Sia

Miss Sia also told us another of her go-to favorite bitchy quotes:

"I don't need your attitude, I have one of my own."

So there! Since the birds are now busy migrating, salute them, by flying your own birds proudly...and often!!!

And tomorrow, I'm thrilled to give you another Meet the Muses example of how one of my favorite authors and new BFFs Melissa Bourbon - aka Misa Ramirez - keeps flying in the midst of all her fears and doubts.

Here's some fabulous Sneak Peek Scoop on Melissa:

Melissa Bourbon, who sometimes answers to her Latina-by-marriage name Misa Ramirez, gave up teaching middle and high school kids in Northern California to write full-time amidst horses and Longhorns in North Texas. She fantasizes about spending summers writing in quaint, cozy locales, has a love/hate relationship with yoga and chocolate, is devoted to her family, and can’t believe she’s lucky enough to be living the life of her dreams.

To tide you over 'til tomorrow, you can find out more about the super fabulous Melissa Bourbon/Misa Ramirez at http://misaramirez.com/ !!!

Writing Tips & Tidbits From RWA10 Disney World: Straight From The Authors' Mouths

    Morning, All!

As we discussed in a previous post, what happened at RWA10 Disney World is sooo not stayin' there! Nope. Notta chance. 'Cause I'm tellin' ya all about it right here in D. D. Scott-ville!

    Why?

Well...in my current Muse Therapy Online Class, we're cussing and discussing Potent Quotables that keep our butts in our chairs and our fingers flying across our keyboards to the next 'The End'.

    And here's the thing...

Despite the wicked witches and big-ass, apple-hurling trees trying to prevent us writers from getting to Publishing Oz, we can rely on terrific quotes and anecdotes from the romance writing industry's hottest stars to keep our BITCHOK groove skipping along the Yellow Brick Road.

So here are a few beyond fabulous quotes I picked-up while attending RWA10 at Disney World:

"You must have an 'F- You' attitude to make it. You must be brave and forward. It's beyond rough." --- Alexandra Sokoloff, Hollywood Screenwriter and Author (http://www.alexandrasokoloff.com)

"Reader A still loves what Reader B thinks is crap." --- Nora Roberts, NYT's Bestseller (http://www.noraroberts.com)

"Assume you're going to do well...not tank. It's all about attitude." --- Elizabeth Hoyt, NYT's Bestseller (http://www.elizabethhoyt.com)

"There are many near death experiences in publishing." --- Jayne Ann Krentz, NYT's Bestseller (http://www.krentz-quick.com)

"I write because I can't do anything else well!" --- Meg Cabot, NYT's Bestseller (http://www.megcabot.com)

How's all that for some fun, fabulous, LOL inspiration?!

I've got tons more from RWA10 Disney World to share with you. So I'll be posting these little gems frequently here in D. D. Scott-ville.

Writing Quotes and Anecdotes From GCCRWA's Silken Sands Conference

    Hello out there!

I'm beyond excited to start a new, recurring blog topic here at http://www.DDScott.com !

    It will work like this...

Wherever I go (check out my Where's D. D. Scott page for locations), I'll post fabulous quotes and anecdotes I pick-up from today's Writing World Super-Stars! How fun is that?!

So without further adieu, my inaugural Writers' Kick-Butt Quotes & Anecdotes comes to you first from GCCRWA's Silken Sands Conference this past March where I met the oh-so-terrific Dianna Love, Karen Rose, and Traci Hall.

Here's what they said that was just too darn good to keep to myself:

DIANNA LOVE http://www.authordiannalove.com is not just a best-selling author, she's a fantastic fisher-woman too. She told a story about how very rarely when you fish you're in "the boat" that catches the most fish of the day. With that in mind, she gave writers this advice regarding the writing life:

"Stop and enjoy the moments because you're very rarely 'the boat'."

KAREN ROSE http://www.karenrosebooks.com confessed she's not a 'Garden Worrier', she's a 'Warrior Worrier', and to beat our writing fears, she advised the following:

"I never wrote to get published. I wrote because I loved it. Never forget why you write and have fun. Let go of your fears and just write through them. Readers need us...and that makes our fears worth it!"

TRACI HALL http://www.tracihall.com then put into a LOL! perspective just how tough writing-for-publication is when she said:

    "If you're a writer, you've signed-up to be abused!"

Okay...how's that for a few fabulous Writing Quotes and Anecdotes to remember along each of our Yellow Brick Road's to Publishing Oz?!

Yes, there are a ton of Big Ass and Bad Ass Witches, Flying Monkeys, and Apple-Throwing Trees on our writing roads, but if we have the brains, the courage, the heart, oh...and some super-cool shoes, we'll make it to see The Wizard. So harness your inner Elphaba and let your fingers fly across your keyboards!!!
