Muse Therapy: To The "Rescue"
Happy Tuesday, D. D. Scott-ville!
With the next Muse Therapy Online Session about to kick-off this coming Saturday, October 1st...
I'm over the moon to be givin' ya a Sneak Peek at some of the superfab new Muse Therapy Tips, Tricks and Treats I'm now using to keep my muses crankin' out pages with gusto!
As many of you know, one of the ways I keep my muses full of energy and always ready to dance like nobody's watching is by living an organic and all-natural lifestyle.
I'm close to being complete vegan in my approach to healthy eating, and I dable in yoga a bit as well as use all-natural remedies when it comes to healing.
I can't believe the difference in my energy levels just because I watch what I put into my body.
I really do think there's a ton of truth to the harm preservatives and chemicals like growth hormones and additives do to our bodies.
That said, many of u ask me:
"D.D., what are you putting in your coffee and cocktails, Girlfriend?! You always have sooo much energy and are sooo happy!"
Well...I drink my Keurig-made coffee, extra-bold and black, or sometimes with just one all-natural sugar packet added. And as far as my cocktails, I have Happy Hour every afternoon with either a glass of wine or a Black Russian, Hot Apple Cider with Brandy or a martini.
And here's another fun way I now treat my muses too...
My latest discovery:

Made in Switzerland, this flower based homeopathic remedy is made from clematis, impatiens, elderflower, orange and beeswax. http://www.bachflower.com/
I stumbled across these little gems in InStyle magazine as something Salma Hayek and her daughter use while flying. And Salma also uses them to keep calm on crazy busy days.
Thanks sooo much for the superfab tip, Salma!
I really do think these pastilles work, and they're such fun to show your peeps too!
I recently took them to our local County Council meeting, which is definitely an occasion for much-needed stress relief!!! LOL!!!
Healthy bodies - as stress-free as we can get 'em - make for happy and productive muses too.
See y'all "in therapy"...Muse Therapy that is...LOL!
You can sign-up anytime right here:

And now, thanks to my new Muse Therapy Online Community, you no longer have to worry about class beginning and end dates...we're there whenever you need us!!!
Cheer to learning how to rein in and reign over your creative divas and dans

Fiction-Writing Plotting Techniques: The D. D. Scott Element List
Happy Tuesday, D. D. Scott-ville!
Now that my 5th Book is out - THUG GUARD, Book One of my new, Cozy Cash Mysteries - which is actually my 15th manuscript, I'm beginning to develop my very own, fiction-writing techniques for creating a D. D. Scott book.
My writing weakness used to be plotting.
And...to that once, huge-ass issue...I used to say:
"Why can't my characters just sit on a supercool bench in some great location and chat for 300 or so pages?! I've been repeatedly told my dialogue and witty banter rock. So yeah...let's just let my characters talk!"
Why can't my characters just sit on a supercool bench and chit-chat?!
Well...these days, it's because they're also involved in solving mysteries, which requires they get off their butts and follow their leads...or, let's face it, find a lead...any lead...LOL!

But, thanks first, to my fantabulous, mystery-writing author friend Misa Ramirez, I now begin each Cozy Cash Mystery with her Mystery Plot Exercise...which includes jotting down the following items:
*** A Sleuth
*** Victim(s)
*** 3 Different Suspects
*** 3 Different Motives For Killing
*** False Leads
*** Real Clues
*** Killer Revealed At The End
So, I took Misa's wayyy fab list, then added my own D. D. Scott twist.
How?!
Well...in my D. D. Scott Books, I like to explore what I call Pop Culture "Elements" in each book.
For example, take a look at each of the high-concept blurbs for my fiction books and their ripe-for-the-pickin' pop culture elements:
BOOTSCOOTIN' BLAHNIKS - Think Sex and The City meets Urban Cowboy
STOMPIN' ON STETSONS - Think Hell's Kitchen mixed with Meet the Fockers
BUCKLES ME BABY - Think paparazzi-hell and Ponzi-scheming fall-out meet home-shopping and Babies "R" Us
THUG GUARD - Think The Rachel Zoe Project meets Bond, James Bond and a Madoff-style, Ponzi-scheming King
Sooo...here comes my D. D. Scott Fiction-Writing Plotting Technique Twist...
I create what I call "The D. D. Scott Element List" for each book...a list, if you will, of all the Pop Culture Tidbits I plan to use in a particular book.
Take my next release - LIP GLOCK, Book Two of my new, Cozy Cash Mysteries - which will hit E-shelves in August...here's my D. D. Scott Element List for that book:
Lips
Glocks
The Mob
Life in a Castle/a princess-in-the-making (very Will & Kate)
Blackwater
The Galleon "cozy cash" scheme
Fashion-esque gadget-style weapons & the forensics to make 'em deadly
Bond, James Bond
Rachel Zoe's "Style A to Zoe"
One of the best spas in Europe
The Blue-Haired Version of Charlie's Angels - aka The Mom Squad
There you go...a Sneak Peek into the fictional world I'm building for LIP GLOCK.
Now...all I have to do...is get my characters off their benches and following each of these elements, then connect the dots from one to the next...and before you know it, I've got another D. D. Scott "The End"!
It's Your Turn, D. D. Scott-ville: If you're a writer, what plotting techniques do you use to get your stories onto your pages and screens? And, if you're a reader, what Pop Culture Elements would you like to see on my list?Labels: Behind and Beyond My Books, Being a Gutsy Romance Writer Girl, My Writing Process or Lack There Of

Being a Water Warrior with My Heroes & Heroines Too!
Happy Tuesday and Happy Earth Day too, D. D. Scott-ville!
Yes...I know, last Friday, April 22nd, was officially Earth Day, but everyday is Earth Day in D. D. Scott-ville!
The DH and I always, always recycle all that we can, and we're sooo tickled our recycle bin fills-up ten times to one as quickly as our garbage bin. We also eat as much organic as we can get our hands on, and make art for our home and yard out of as much of other people's "junk" as we can find.
This year, though, I wanted to do something extra for Earth Day...and since we live along the fantabulous shores of Lake Michigan, I knew just what to do...
With the help of my Aveda Salon, I became a Water Warrior, by getting this super-cool, water-blue hair extension...

How cool is that?!
And just like my Protector and Firecracker Heroes and Heroines - my beloved Bootscootin' Series Roxy Rae Vaughn and now coming soon (in mid-May), my Cozy Cash Mysteries Hero and Heroine Roman Bellesconi and Zoey Witherspoon, who can be described as:
♦ ♦ ♦ The Protector Another Knight-in-Shining-Armor kinda guy but one who might be a little more predisposed to do things his own unique way rather than by the accepted historical codes of chivalry. He gets the job done and protects his heroine, family and friends by utilizing whatever Christopher Chance-like (HUMAN TARGET) methods he deems necessary given the current situation and/or enemy. (Det. John McLane from Die Hard)
♥ ♥ ♥ The Firecracker Like a big ol’ stick of raw dynamite, this gal is just one match away from blowin’ her top. She creates quite a report – aka the fireworks term for a bunch of noise – wherever she goes. She packs a ton of punch. And has enough explosive energy for her entire world and then some. Once she’s channeled into a positive direction, however, there’s nothin’ or nobody that can stop her from getting what –or who— she wants. (Samantha Jones from Sex and the City)
***Note: For more super-cool character types and definitions and tons of crazy-fun conversations about them, see my grog The Naked Hero !!!
I'm doing all I can to fiercely protect the waters of the world, starting in my own backyard, by being an Aveda Water Warrior! Here's some more scoop on how you too can be a Water Warrior:

Writing Realistic Crime Scenes: Death By Pepper Spray and...Cocaine?
Happy Tuesday, D. D. Scott-ville!
So I'm wayyy, wayyy deep into deadline week for my mid-May release THUG GUARD - Book One of my new, Cozy Cash Mysteries.
And I needed to kill-off a couple suspects.
Being as my heroine Zoey Witherspoon is a Stylist to The Stars, plus now a P.I. too, I had to find a fashion-world kinda way to do-in a couple bad guys.
My research so far had involved all kinds of Miss Universe-style pageant sabotage stories like the one from 2007 when Miss Puerto Rico's gown and makeup were tampered with using a pepper-based itching powder.
Which made me ponder...
Can Pepper Spray kill?

More research...
And I found this fantabulous blog...
The Writer's Forensics Blog by author and MD D.P. Lyle.
Plus, I found the answers I needed.
Pepper Spray can kill, if a person is on Cocaine at the same time.
And here's the scoop, straight from Dr. Lyle's post "Cocaine and Pepper Spray: A Lethal Combination?":
Pepper spray is a very painful product to have sprayed in your face. The reaction to this sudden pain and burning of the eyes and throat is a fight or flight response. Epinephrine is released by the adrenal glands in massive quantities and, in a situation where there is already cocaine in the system, it could easily cause dangerous arrhythmias, heart attacks, or strokes. The combination of cocaine and epinephrine is known to be potentially deadly.
I would suspect that if this combination does indeed prove to be lethal that this is the mechanism by which it occurs. The danger is not from the cocaine and the pepper spray, at least not directly, but rather from the combination of cocaine and the epinephrine that is released due to the pain of the capsaicin. The devil is in the details.
But from a practical point of view, dead is dead and the mechanism is more or less irrelevant. Very interesting and I hope there is further research in this arena.
Sooo...there you have it. Pepper Spray can kill...if cocaine is already wreaking havoc on the body's systems.
I won't make this anymore of a Spoiler Alert for THUG GUARD...but I can tell you, Zoey and Dr. Lyle are gonna be teamin' up for lots of cool "killing" facts on the pages of my new Cozy Cash Mysteries.
You'll see how this little bit plays out in THUG GUARD, which releases on or around May 16th!!!

Sometimes Being an Author Makes You...Faint!
Happy Tuesday, D. D. Scott-ville!
Last Friday, I had one of the most amazing experiences thus far in my writing-for-publication career, and I just had to share it.
So...I'm sitting in my fave comfy chair, a Keurig Hot Cocoa Cup close-by and my Kindle in my lap, just like I do every Friday, after lunch, catching up on the week's publishing industry blogs and grogs...
When what to my wondering eyes should appear...oh wait...wrong story...but trust me, this was sooo much better than Santa Claus...
Anyhoo...moving on...
I clicked on my Kindle Subscription to one of my uber fave industry blogs - Bufo Calvin's I LOVE MY KINDLE - and read this post headline:
"Author Sells 12 Times as many books at $0.99"
Thinking to myself 'cool, that's a must-read 'cause I've had a very similar experience', I clicked on the post and began to read. Here...check this out:
"Author Sells 12 Times as many books at $0.00"
When I saw that not only did this author have the same experience, but that this author was also, in fact, ME - YOURS TRULY, I'm honestly not sure what happened.
I remember standing up - because I was gonna do a huge 'ole Happy Dance around my living room - but the next thing I knew I woke up on my living room floor, in the fetal position, crying like a baby.
No joke! I think I fainted!!!

LOL!!!
You see...I'm a huge fan of Bufo's I LOVE MY KINDLE and consider him one of "the" Go-To-Guys for all-things-Kindle and Epublishing. When I saw that he was following my career, and not just following it, but talking it up, I...well...fainted I guess.
So yeah...sometimes, being a writer makes you...faint!
Cheers to that job hazard! LOL!!!
Anyhoo, if you're a writer, writing-for-publication, subscribe to I LOVE MY KINDLE on Kindle - it's well worth the 99 cents per month subscription fee to have it pushed right to your Kindle - or bookmark the free I LOVE MY KINDLE online version.

Writing Realistic Crime Scenes: Do Bodies Float or Sink in a Pool?
Happy Thursday, D. D. Scott-ville!
I'm thrilled to launch my new Blog Series regarding Writing Realistic Crime Scenes!!!
My new Cozy Cash Mysteries Heroine Zoey Witherspoon has a knack for finding dead bodies...
So, I gotta figure out all the scoop on all-things-Crime Scene-and-Dead Bodies too...and not the Hollywood CSI version mind you...we all know "that's Hollywood"...not exactly realistic, right?...although, it sure as hell seems quite cool on our TV screens.
Anyhoo...first up for Zoey, well actually second, because she's already found her first dead guy in a Range Rover parked next to her at her local Jiffy Mart...so...onto Dead Guy Two...
He's found in the swimming pool of his billion dollar Palm Beach estate.
So here's Zoey's question:
Would Dead Guy Two be face-up or down in his swimming pool and would he be floating at the top or skimming the bottom of the pool?

In my D. D. Scott-ville-world then, I first go to my DH who is a 27-year veteran of our Sheriff's Department (now Captain and Commander of our County Jail)...and who also once served on our Dept. Dive Team.
My Captain said:
Your Dead Guy Two will only float once gases like carbon dioxide and methane build-up in his body after he's deceased. That causes the body to then float to the top of the pool. And you'll find the body face down because that's how the design of the body allows it to float...because of the head, arms and legs naturally moving forward only.
Damn, my DH is smart!!!
'Course I did further research online too...and here's some more scoop on Dead People Floating or Not Floating in Swimming Pools or Water In General:
Why The Dead Body Floats on Water
Dead Man's Float: Why Are Bodies in the Water Always Facedown?
Why Do Bodies Float?
Very cool and very interesting stuff for my stiffs, right?!
Now that I'm writing RomCom-Cozies (Romantic Comedies w/a hoot of a Cozy Mystery Element), I'm waiting on the Authorities to show-up at my door and start asking me questions about why I'm researching this stuff...Just think of all the great info I'll have to share with 'em over a Keurig Kup or two?! LOL!!!

The Moonlighting Curse: To Believe or Not To Believe
Happy Tuesday, D. D. Scott-ville!
Every romance writer has a choice to make...with each book or series...and with each Hero and Heroine. And that choice is:
"Will They? Or Won't They?"
As in...will they become a couple and complete that part of their romance...or won't they resolve that part of their relationship journey...then continue that quest in the next book, if a series, and keep the reader guessing...and in some cases, guessing...and guessing...and guessing.
So...while I'm writing my new Stephanie Plum-Wanna Be, Cozy Cash Mysteries Heroine - Zoey Witherspoon - "will she" or "won't she" hook up with her Hero Roman Bellesconi?
I'll tell y'all, right up front, that, as a writer, I tend to lean far, far away from The Moonlighting Curse...
Not familiar with The Moonlighting Curse?
Here's the scoop:
The popular '80s series that starred Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd sizzled in the ratings, until the two of them sizzled in the bedroom in the 14th episode of season three. After that, the ratings took a steep nosedive and the show never recovered. Denise Warner, The 'Moonlighting' Effect: Is That Why 'Bones' Refuses to Pair Leads Romantically?
And Bones isn't the only hot TV show where writers and producers battle the "Will They? Won't They?" of The Moonlighting Curse. Take this fabulous article last month in TV Guide regarding one of my all-time fave, quirky crime procedural dramedies Castle

Castle Exclusive: Inside TV's Hottest Romance
Castle's Creator and Executive Producer Andrew Marlowe had this to say about the studios' fears of The Moonlighting Curse:
Everyone talks about the Moonlighting Curse...Will they or won't they? [The resounding answer] They will. I'm absolutely convinced there's quality storytelling to be had after they get together. Anybody who's been in a relationship knows that they have complexities and compromises. There's plenty of stuff to mine.
And Marlowe certainly knows all about that relationship stuff to mine as he's been married since 1997 to fellow Castle writer Terri Miller.
Like Castle's Marlowe and Miller, then, my Cozy Cash Mysteries Hero and Heroine are sooo not goin' the Stephanie Plum relationship route of Morelli vs Ranger, Ranger vs Morelli, to infinity and beyond.
No way!
My Zoey is gonna have her hands - full for books and books and books - dealing with all Roman's secrets, but dammit if she doesn't fall for the guy, and wayyy beyond just fallin' into his bed...
I'm an Andrew Marlowe-style writer through and through...who says, like him, "I'm as impatient as the fans when it comes to the relationship."
In D. D. Scott-ville, The Moonlighting Curse can take a big 'ole hike!
'Cause yeah, my Rachel Zoe-esque Zoey Witherspoon and her super-hot Hero Roman Bellesconi have their own "Castle"s to explore and conquer...lit-er-a-lly.
And their love, trust, and rock-solid relationship are the only things keeping 'em happy...oh, and keeping 'em alive too.

MUSE THERAPY: Being Holly Golightly "Lovely"
One week 'til my #1 Amazon Bestselling Book MUSE THERAPY: UNLEASHING YOUR INNER SYBIL
makes its
Kindle Nation Daily Debut!!!
Can't wait 'til January 27th and 29th!!!
And to celebrate that amazing opportunity, as promised, I'm treating you with another MUSE THERAPY Tip and Trick right from the book!

So here we go...from MUSE THERAPY Chapter Eight - Muses & Misplaced Aggression: Kick Your Own Ass Not Somebody Else's
*******************************************
What constructive actions can we take after we’ve ruminated about our beyond frustrating writing-for-publication journeys?
Me personally? Well, I use my other main lifeline outside of anger management therapy and rumination – Audrey Hepburn.

There’s just something about singing Mancini’s “Moon River” – just like Audrey did for her Holly Golightly in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S - that is the cud I’ll forever chew-on while ruminating about how to handle Evil-Editor-Turds everywhere.
Since not all of us are (a) New York City playgirl escorts like Audrey’s Holly (who gets fifty dollars every time she goes to the powder room while trolling for a millionaire to marry) or (b) if you’re a guy, a “sponsored” playboy writer (like Capote’s George Peppard-played Paul), we’ve got to be like the real Audrey Hepburn. We’ve got to know ‘how to be lovely’ in the face of wanting to misplace our aggressions after each rejection letter we receive.
And unless you live in New York City, and perusing Tiffany’s windows with a coffee cup and Danish, are but a cab ride, subway trip, or walk away, you’ve got to rely on other means to soothe your muses.
Audrey herself gave us many brilliant tips on how to make the most of where we’re at in life right now. She said:
“We are all grown-up children, really. Our lives are made up of adulthood and childhood, all together. So one should go back in search of what was loved and found to be real.”
So as does Julia Cameron in her ARTIST’S WAY, Hepburn looks to her inner artist child and her childhood itself for relief from the disappointments and frustrations of career and adulthood.
Audrey took long walks, read books, listened to music and arranged flowers (Hellstern, HOW TO BE LOVELY), finding peace in the solitude of these activities.
“I have to be alone quite often. I’d be quite happy if I spent Saturday night to Monday morning in my apartment. That’s how I refuel.”
“When the chips are down, you are alone, and loneliness can be terrifying. Fortunately...I love to be alone. It doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m my own company.”
I’m the same way in that often I take refuge and find comfort in being alone with my inner self/child. But even though I resort first to dealing with my fear on my own, I also use Muse Therapy – yep, you betchya, the very same “therapy” techniques I’m teaching you – to finish getting a grip on my writing fears and frustrations. And Audrey supported “getting a therapist” too. She said to “just get on with it” if that might do the trick for you. She realized the alternative meant misplaced aggression in that you’d end up “blowing your top” and “having to go around apologizing” after the fact.
For Audrey, the most important part of being able to accept life’s insecurities was learning to live with herself. In Muse Therapy-speak that means part of the success secret is learning and discovering then accepting what makes you, your soul and your muses tick plus what ticks them off.
“The greatest victory in my life has been to be able to live with myself, to accept my shortcomings and those of others. I’m a long way from being the human being I’d like to be. But I’ve decided I’m not so bad after all.”
***************************************
So "Go Holly Golightly" in your writing-for-publication journeys!
Decide, like Audrey did, that despite all the industry rejections, that you're "not so bad after all".

Kristen Lamb - My Go-To Social Media Queen!!!
Hello to all in D. D. Scott-ville!
I'm very excited to share my latest E-Book Country Experiment!!!
An it begins with the ever-fabulous Kristen Lamb and her must-read social media guide:
WE ARE NOT ALONE: THE WRITER'S GUIDE TO SOCIAL MEDIA

I actually "met" Kristen on Twitter, and have been a huge, huge fan ever since.

She has single-handedly made me feel like not quite as big of a Techno Dunce as I really am!
Her beyond terrific Warrior Writers Blog is also a must-read, and the WE ARE NOT ALONE book...well, let's just say, I do firmly believe that it is one of the main reasons I'm selling so well as a debut Indie Epubbed Author!!!
For example, just this last week, I read in WE ARE NOT ALONE how to use Kristen's "Poaching" Method - but poaching in a positive, all-together legal and fun way - to build new audiences for my books, and wow oh wow is it working!!!
To "poach" your audience, you use the fabulous Search Function on Twitter and identify groups of people to follow based on topics that relate to your books.
Here's how I used Kristen's method:
What are my books - BOOTSCOOTIN' BLAHNIKS, STOMPIN' ON STETSONS, and MUSE THERAPY: UNLEASHING YOUR INNER SYBIL about?
country line dancing
Nashville TN
romantic comedies
chick lit
cupcakes
barbecue
tomatoes
shoes
fashion
cozy mysteries
writing muses
romance reading
epublishing
Okay...you get the idea...
So I did searches on all these topics then simply started following the tweeple who tweet about these things in a positive way. These tweeple just might like my books!!!
And are u ready for my results?!
Since doing this "poaching" for about a week now, I've increased my social media following on not just Twitter but on Facebook too by between 50 and 60 followers and friends on each platform. In addition, I've sold another 25+ books!!!
But the best part...
I've got a ton of new virtual friends who are now leading me to all new resources and communities as well!!!
Try this!!!
I can't wait to hear your results!!!
And a big 'ole shout-out Thank You, Kristen Lamb!!!

Suzy Toronto's Plan B Is The Place To Be!
Happy Monday, D. D. Scott-ville!
Each January 1st, to turn over the guard to the next 365 days of my life, I put up all my new calendars. And those calendars, which I've taken great care to pick out, become my new mantras for the new year.
So without further adieu...2011 in D. D. Scott-Calendar-Ville...is all about...
Plan B
Plan B - as in fabulous artist Suzy Toronto 's Plan B:

What is Suzy's Plan B?
Here's the scoop straight from her January print:
Life Is All About How You Handle Plan B
Plan A is always my first choice. You know, the one where everything works out to be "happily ever after." But more often than not, I find myself dealing with the upside-down, inside-out version where nothing goes as it should. It's at this point the real test comes in...Do I sink or do I swim? Do I wallow in self-pity and play the victim or simply shift gears and make the best of the situation? The choice is mine. After all...life is all about how you handle Plan B.
Plan B...it's the true test of character.

How fabulous is this mantra?!
When I stumbled upon Suzy's Calendar in a Cracker Barrel, I knew I'd found my secret to living life in 2011!!!
Plan B is exactly what my cofounding of The WG2E was all about!
Writers now "get" - after continuing to watch and live the fall-out of the traditional publishing business model - that Traditional Plan A ain't workin'. The Happily Ever Afters we write about aren't showing up on our royalty statements. Are we going to sink with the traditional publishing world or swim into a new and very exciting sea of opportunity? And if we're going to shift gears in order to swim into the Epublishing Sea, and make the best of the situation, won't that be a beyond fabulous test of our character?
Very "Plan B"...don't ya think?!
So come along with us as we swim at The WG2E!

Oh...and check out Suzy's fabulous site too...she's my kinda gal!!!

E-Book Country: A Writer's Goals Must Change with the Ever-Changing Publishing Industry
Happy Hump Day, D. D. Scott-ville!
I found a fabulous take on how a writer's goals must change because of our ever-changing publishing industry, and I just had to share pieces of it with you!
Thank u J.A. (Joe) Konrath!!!
You can read the entire post called "Resolutions for Writers 2011" at http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/2010/12/resolutions-for-writers-2011.html
Joe says:
As a writer, you are part artist and part businessman.
Great artists take chances.
Successful businessmen take chances.
This means doing things you're afraid of, and things you hate, and things you've never tried before.
And wow do I sooo agree with Joe!
But it's not only that I agree, I'm acting on Joe and I's beliefs by co-founding The WG2E - The Writer's Guide to E-Publishing!
That's right...me and my partners - Tonya Kappes, Misa Ramirez and L. A. Lopez - are taking chances, doing things we may be a bit afraid of and things we've never tried before so that y'all have a new, go-to-source for all-things-Epublishing.
The WG2E officially launches January 1st at http://thewritersguidetoepublishing.com but feel free to stop by, keeping in mind that we're still adding content and fine-tuning all the features between now and then. Look for my official welcome and launch message on January 1st!
So in this way then, The WG2E is a Konrath-style "pioneer".

Here's the scoop straight from Joe:
I Will Be A Pioneer. Remember the old saying about how to recognize a pioneer? They're the one with the arrows in their backs and fronts.
I've tried to be forward-thinking in my career, rather than being content with my role as a cog in a broken machine. Your best chance for longevity is to question everything, test boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and be willing to change your mind and learn from your mistakes.
Your job is to survive, by any means necessary. So pull out the arrows and forge ahead. Discover the difference between determination and stupidity by being an example for one or the other or both.
Q: What do you call a wary pioneer? A: Still alive.
At the WG2E, we're Paying It Forward with forward-thinking and by testing boundaries as well as creating new boundaries...and we're taking y'all along for the ride!
All writers can not only survive the huge changes in the publishing industry, they can thrive! And we're gonna show you how at The WG2E!!!

Sweet Serendipity, My 2011 Year of The E-Book Adventure, & The WG2E
Happy Monday, D. D. Scott-ville!
It's almost 2011, and boy-oh-boy does that mean bigger-than-big, new adventures in D. D. Scott-ville!!!
Last week I christened 2011 as The Year of the E-Book and Cross-Pollination and told you I'd be sharing the details.
Well...here are a few of the details...
E-Books are sooo here to stay! And for that very reason, the Publishing Industry has been turned on its huge head!!! Which means a writer's personal life and his or her business life will never again be the same!
Here's one take on that Brave New World from amazing author Robert Walker (as interviewed by my Go-To-Guy J. A. Konrath on his blog http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/2010/12/interview-with-robert-w-walker.html :
Rob: I found this so serendipitous that a story chockfull of technology and science fiction is being self-pubbed. In fact, my last five booklength works, one a how-to, have been Kindle original titles.
I say serendipitous because my dream as a writer had always been to publish as I produce – no nine month gestation period, no year and a half wait for print, but pubbed the day after completion, hot off the brain. Technology in the real world has caught up to my dreams...
D. D. Scott here: A great example of my Year of the E-Book claim...right?
Now check this out...and you'll also get a hint at what Cross-Pollination is all about too...
JA: But your answer does not cut to the real issue—who are you, Robert Walker, to take on the Titanic? You are known for your serial killer and police procedural and medical examiner novels and forays into the horror category.
Rob: I brought all the categories I have ever written in on this novel: mystery, history, autopsy, horror, science fiction, coming of age, suspense, generational, thriller, steampunk, romance—
JA: Sounds meaty.
Rob: The novel is meant to cut across time, space, and genres or pigeon holds and traditional publishing holes. The novel has more layers than an onion, and as they are peeled away it falls into place like a puzzle in two time zones—past and future. Drink up. You’ll need it, Joe.
Robert Walker is an "old friend" of Joe's who Joe (aka J. A. Konrath) helped earlier this year get his backlist of 30+ out-of-print novels onto Kindle.
Walker now has a new ebook out...Titanic 2012 – Curse of RMS Titanic...which I just downloaded onto my Kindle, not because any of Walker's genres are my thing...but the story just sounded so damn intriguing, and I'm paying it forward by downloading writers who've had the courage, like I have, of going the E-Book route.
I mean look at this fabulous cover?! What's not to love?! Especially after you read the rest of Joe's Interview of Walker and read the novel's excerpt included in the interview!!!
 http://www.amazon.com/Titanic-2012-Curse-RMS-ebook/dp/B0049U4CCE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=books&qid=1292868747&sr=8-1
So what does Walker's "Sweet Serendipity" have to do with D. D. Scott-ville 2011?
It's called The WG2E - The Writer's Guide to E-publishing - my new, Year of the E-Book Adventure!!!
As I've been teasing you with, I'm partnering with the ever-fabulous authors Tonya Kappes http://tonyakappes.com/, Misa Ramirez http://misaramirez.com/ and L. A. Lopez http://irishsistersknits.com/ to do for all genres what J. A. Konrath and now Walker too have done for the Mystery, Thriller and Sci-Fi genres.
More details will be coming very soon...but basically, we've co-founded The WG2E to be your destination site for Everything E-Publishing.
You'll find fabulous discussions on such topics as: *** Using the Term Indie Pubbed vs Self-Pubbed *** How Much Do Covers Matter in E-Publishing *** How Writer's Goals Must Change w/the Ever-Changing Publishing Industry *** An on-going series of posts regarding the "Real" Numbers and an analysis thereof *** Agency Pricing (9.99-11.99 plus) with a 7-30% (40% if u r lucky) royalty vs. Using the Much-Debated Kindle Price-Point of 2.99 (where you can buy three books for less than one agency priced book) and Make 70% Royalties Paid Monthly vs. Paid Twice Per Year *** Putting Blogs Up on Kindle for 99 Cents/Month *** How To Categorize Your Releases on Kindle to Max Your Chances of Making Amazon's Bestseller Lists *** What Is a Kindle Nation Daily "Push" & Why Y'all Need One *** How Sales Dramatically Increase on Days You've Found a New Audience (whether by increasing FB & twitter friends/followers or guest blogging, teaching a class, etc.) *** Small E-Press Success vs. Indie Publishing the Amazon Way *** E-Book Promo Ho-ing vs. Working Traditional Publishing Marketing & Publicity "Corners"
How's that for some MAJOR NEW YEAR WG2E FABULOUSNESS?!
WG2E launches on January 1st!!!
You won't want to miss it!!!
Now...here's what we at WG2E need to know...What other topics - Everything E-Publishing - do you want info and scoop on?!
Leave your Everything E-Publishing questions in my comment section here at D. D. Scott-ville, and if we don't know the answers you need, we'll help you find them!!!

Happy Winter Wonderland, D. D. Scott-ville!
I'm writing to you in the midst of a big ass blizzard!!! We haven't had one of these monsters for awhile!
I opened our side door to let our beloved Buckley out to do his bizzness, and we both were victims to the wall of snow then drifted half-way up our door! Way to start the work-week at 5 AM!!! LOL!!!
Anyhoo...
Today, I thought I'd fill you in on what's in store for D. D. Scott-ville 2011!!!
And here's a hint:

I'm a tellin' ya, we're gonna have Everything You Ever Wanted and Now Need To Know About All-Things-Ebooks and E-publishing Too!!!
So stay-tuned for much more on that...but in the mean time, here's the scoop on all the D. D. Scott Sexy Sassy Smart Stories comin' atchya in 2011...
Here's where the Cross-Pollination comes into play!
Valentine's Day 2011 will be the release of Book Three in my Bootscootin' Books Series - BUCKLES ME BABY.
Think paparazzi-hell and Ponzi-scheme fall-out meet home-shopping and Babies “R” Us.

Manhattan-raised, marketing and promotion impresario Audrey Holtz has taken her friend’s belt buckles from Music City boutique favorites to home shopping channel wait-list-only items. But she’s traded in her high-power stilettos for Sketchers ‘cause her feet are swollen and killing her. Pregnancy is a bitch, especially when you’ve assumed a false identity to dodge paparazzi on account of your Madoff-style, Ponzi-scheming parents.
Nashville TN homebuilder Damian Baker is screwed and not in the construction sense of the word. Who would have thought the first room he’d be designing and building for his dream home would be a nursery...for his and Audrey’s twins? But he’s hell-bent on providing well for and protecting the woman he loves plus the children he can’t wait to meet.
Audrey and Damian may not be able to hide from the camera lenses, the baby blues, and belt buckle mania, although they can hide behind their love. But is their love strong enough to deflect the blinding glare of the spotlight?
What does that have to do with Cross-Pollination?
How 'bout we start with what the hell is Cross-Pollination?
Cross-Pollination is a marketing term - which I learned from one of my mentors, bestselling author J. A. Konrath http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/ - referring to a hybrid cross of material and/or products used to bring a devoted audience of one product into the devoted ranks of customers of a new product.
Okay...that's kinda my definition of the concept...but wow will I be showin' ya how that works in D. D. Scott-ville for 2011.
Here's a hint:
You'll see the concept in action, first-hand, with the release of my new Cozy Mystery Series in April 2011! Think Stephanie Plum meets your Avon Lady!!!
And to gear-up for my new Cozy Mysteries, you'll want to start by reading my Bootscootin' Books.
Why?
Because many of the Bootscootin' Books characters will cross-pollinate into my new Cozy Mystery World too!!!
Think about STOMPIN' ON STETSONS Aunt Tulip...with a gun...and her aphrodisiacs!!!
 http://www.amazon.com/Stompin-Stetsons-Bootscootin-Books-ebook/dp/B004DI7N32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=books&qid=1292255561&sr=8-1
Or how about BOOTSCOOTIN' BLAHNIKS The Mom Squad taking their Charlie's Angels routine to all new levels?!
 http://www.amazon.com/Bootscootin-Blahniks-Books-ebook/dp/B003ZDO30W/ref=pd_sim_kinc_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2
'Course what would you say too if me and my partners put together a big 'ole 2011 Christmas Anthology with all our crazy characters?!
How fun is all this fabulous scoop?!
Can't wait to share more with you in the days and weeks ahead!!!
'Til then...stay warm and cozy...inside...curled up with a great book...'cause it's a blizzard out there y'all!!!
