Me and My Kindle Mantra & Alice in Wonderland Too!
So I was chatting on the Kindle Boards with one of my new fave authors and fave gals in general Barbara Silkstone...
Yes, "the" Barbara Silkstone of the super fabulous read THE SECRET DIARY OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND AGE 42 AND THREE-QUARTERS, and if you haven't read this, get it right now and prepare to laugh your ass off...
I was telling Barbara that her Alice story was next in my Kindle Queue!!!
Then saying:
I can't wait to read it tonight while comfy in my chair - with a cocktail, Keurig-Kup, or cocoa close by.
Nothin' beats the 5 K sounds: a fabulous Kindle story, a cocktail, a Keurig Kup or cocoa, and a comfy chair!
And then I realized that I'd been using the 5 K's a bunch lately...on not just the fabulous Kindle Boards, but on Facebook, Twitter, the Amazon Kindle Facebook Fan Page and terrific Facebook Pages like Book Worms.

I'm ecstatic with my sales numbers, and I'm thrilled to share 'em with you at The WG2E.
Keep in mind when you're reviewing my numbers that unlike the traditional publishing world of old where you had to have a huge push by a major publisher to sell well, I didn't have that.
I'm totally self-made via Indie Epublishing.
And I'm here to tell you - then show you how - it can be done.
I'm right on track - as you'll see comparing my numbers to other Bestselling Indie Authors - to selling my own multiple thousands of Ebooks by the end of 2011.
How?
By making some of the same tough but great decisions that they did too! (More on that in future posts both here and at The WG2E.)

*** My first royalty check was $32.66 (for August 2010 sales). The second check was $53.65 (for Sept/Oct sales). A 62% increase!!! Yesss!!! - I went from selling 17 books in the first check to 31 books in the second check!

The WG2E's Real Numbers Series: Putting Epublishing Numbers Into Perspective

This coming Monday - January 10, 2011 - is the Launch of The WG2E's Real Numbers Series!
And every Monday thereafter at The WG2E, we're gonna share our Epublishing Real Numbers then analyze the heck out of 'em too.
But before we do that, I wanted to give our numbers the proper perspective.
No, I'm no J. A. Konrath yet, but I happen to find a fabulous example of exactly where I'll be coming from with my Real Numbers on his blog.

In January of 2010, I had one book on Kindle and sold 31 copies. I had two print books on the market with a small publisher, and they weren’t selling much better. In December, I had six books on Kindle and sold over 10,000 copies. To get from point A to point B, I had to make some radical decisions.

E-Book Country: A Writer's Goals Must Change with the Ever-Changing Publishing Industry

I found a fabulous take on how a writer's goals must change because of our ever-changing publishing industry, and I just had to share pieces of it with you!

That's right...me and my partners - Tonya Kappes, Misa Ramirez and L. A. Lopez - are taking chances, doing things we may be a bit afraid of and things we've never tried before so that y'all have a new, go-to-source for all-things-Epublishing.

I Will Be A Pioneer. Remember the old saying about how to recognize a pioneer? They're the one with the arrows in their backs and fronts.
I've tried to be forward-thinking in my career, rather than being content with my role as a cog in a broken machine. Your best chance for longevity is to question everything, test boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and be willing to change your mind and learn from your mistakes.
Your job is to survive, by any means necessary. So pull out the arrows and forge ahead. Discover the difference between determination and stupidity by being an example for one or the other or both.
Q: What do you call a wary pioneer? A: Still alive.

Sweet Serendipity, My 2011 Year of The E-Book Adventure, & The WG2E

It's almost 2011, and boy-oh-boy does that mean bigger-than-big, new adventures in D. D. Scott-ville!!!
Last week I christened 2011 as The Year of the E-Book and Cross-Pollination and told you I'd be sharing the details.
Well...here are a few of the details...
E-Books are sooo here to stay! And for that very reason, the Publishing Industry has been turned on its huge head!!! Which means a writer's personal life and his or her business life will never again be the same!

Rob: I found this so serendipitous that a story chockfull of technology and science fiction is being self-pubbed. In fact, my last five booklength works, one a how-to, have been Kindle original titles.
I say serendipitous because my dream as a writer had always been to publish as I produce – no nine month gestation period, no year and a half wait for print, but pubbed the day after completion, hot off the brain. Technology in the real world has caught up to my dreams...

Robert Walker is an "old friend" of Joe's who Joe (aka J. A. Konrath) helped earlier this year get his backlist of 30+ out-of-print novels onto Kindle.
Walker now has a new ebook out...Titanic 2012 – Curse of RMS Titanic...which I just downloaded onto my Kindle, not because any of Walker's genres are my thing...but the story just sounded so damn intriguing, and I'm paying it forward by downloading writers who've had the courage, like I have, of going the E-Book route.

My Kindle and Me: It's Here! It's Here!
I went to our door.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear...
But a tiny little Amazon box with a Kindle to hold dear!!!
Ohhh yeahhh!!!
Thanks to my beyond fabulous Sweet Man, Santa came early to D. D. Scott-ville and brought us our Kindle 3!!!
And OMGosh is it super amazing!!!
Want to know the best part of all?!
Well...as many of you know, I'm a complete Techno Dunce. But I was reading on my new Kindle in no more than five minutes from the time I opened the box!!!
That's right! Even I could figure it out!!!
So I want to share all the Kindle 3's Techno Magic and show y'all how truly fabulous it really is!!!
Here are a few of my right-outta-the-box observations:
1. I luuuvvved that when I turned it on for the first time, the screen read "Welcome, D. D.!"...and yes, I could read that for myself or turn on the feature that allows the Kindle to read it to me...yeah, I know...how cool is that?! You can read your Kindle or your Kindle can read to you!!!
2. I had been sooo stewing about how I'd get all 46 of the books we'd already purchased from Amazon's Kindle Store - using its FREE Kindle PC, Laptop and Smart Phone Apps - from those Apps to our new Kindle...but stewing was sooo not necessary! If you buy your Kindle from Amazon, using the same Amazon account you already buy Kindle E-books from, your Kindle will automatically sync with those apps so all your E-books are already there on your new Kindle screen!!!
3. The letter Amazon sends to your Kindle welcoming you - by name, btw - mentions that their primary design objective was for the device itself to disappear while you're reading, leaving you, the reader, with nothing but the fabulous words, ideas, thoughts, and stories of your favorite authors. And I thought, cool idea but how is that going to happen? Well, folks...I'm not kiddin' ya...that's exactly what it does. Somehow, while you're reading on your Kindle, your eyes no longer "see" the frame and/or device itself, you're just cruising along with the words and the story. Unbelievable!!!
I'm tellin' ya...my Sweet Man and Santa outdid themselves this year!!!

Cody wants to help Jules, but what he really wants is to succeed in their relationship where he’s failed in the past.
With both of their exes stirring the pots, can Jules and Cody pull off the wedding without making minced meat of their relationship? And when a hat causes heat to simmer between them, will they be able to survive both in and out of the kitchen?

E-Book Country: Pay It Forward Experiment
Ohhh yeahhh...it's almost the weekend!!!
And a very Happy Veterans' Day to all of you who've served our country as well as to all of you whose friends and/or families have served too!!!
